Provision of aids

 

For some children we can produce aids and adapt them on their individual needs. We are conscious about this we can help only in exceptions and the aids are designed very simple.

A courageous girl

Amina is intellectually awake and understands everything what happens around. Because of her spastic she can hardly speak. Her expression possibility is facial expression.

We found her at the first visit in a pitiful condition. She and her mother had given up hope. She was completely skinny; what therefore caused her unutterable problems to use the toilet (hole in the concrete ground). Therefore she also wanted to eat nothing. Because of severe pains in the hip led, she refused every therapeutic exercise.

 

When we went to her we wanted to give a weelchair but this was impossible in her constitution. So we have driven her to a clinic, where she got painkiller prescribed and we encouraged her mother, to start again with the exercises.

At the next visit we have brought a toilet chair and a couch which has top raised. Special cushions shall make a pleasant lying and different positions possible. Amina has made stretching exercises, hard-working with her mother. The success can be recognized well.

After some months Aminas condition improved so much, that we could think about a wheelchair again. The problem was to get one, which could be adapted to her needs. In Ethiopia wheelchairs are produced but these are for most spastic children unsuitably.

By contacts to Signum Vitae, a project for disabled from Switzerland we got second hand wheelchair donated. This can be altered up to the lying position and offers Amina for the first time in her live the possibility of taking part in the family life sedentarily.
